Elephants are the largest Land animals on Earth and come in two species, the African Elephant and the Asian Elephant. African Elephants are slightly larger than their Asian cousins and can be identified by their larger ears that look somewhat like the continent of Africa in comparison to Asian elephants which have smaller, more rounded ears.
Threatened by the global trade in Ivory, many populations have been significantly depleted across both continents. However they remain some of the most spectacular and graceful animals to see in the wild that still play a huge part in the lives of the humans that live in close proximity with them. Many cultures have domesticated these fine animals, using their physical attributes to our advantage; however witnessing Elephants in the wild remains the greatest way to interact with this fantastic creatures.
