Located in the little known Thaa Atoll, Maldives one hour south of Male by sea plane COMO Maalifushi is a gem of a hotel. Just 65 villas, garden rooms, overwater villas and beach suites create an stylish and intimate resort.
COMO Maalifushi is perfect for families, couples and singles, looking for an island get away. The isolated location affords surfers and divers some excellent opportunities but ultimately, it is the relaxed feel of the resort that makes it popular with celebrities. Privacy is guaranteed and the focus is on the natural beauty. The resort has a boutique feel with unobtrusive personalised service.
If you have been lucky enough to stay in another COMO hotel before you will be familiar with the low-key feel, the simplicity and minimalist style, bleached woods and white muslin. You will have been drawn back to a previous stay if you couldn’t resist taking home Como Shambala toiletries. INVIGORATE is our favourite COMO Shambhala product line which uses essential oils; invigorating eucalyptus and cooling peppermint.
For the wellness enthusiasts, the Como Shambala Spa is a destination in its own right. The extensive range of treatments, yoga, meditation and nourishing spa cuisine make it one of world-renowned wellness programmes which extends beyond a spa.
We would recommend you start your day with sunrise yoga. After a healthy or not so healthy breakfast, grab your bike and head for the water sports centre where you can pursue an extensive array of water sports which are complimentary. It really is paradise for aquaholics – snorkelling, kayaking, windsurfing or stand-up paddle boarding. And then there are some exciting chargeable experiences such as deep-sea fishing on a fabulous convertible yacht, splash-net dolphin-spotting cruises and soul-stirring night swimming with three-metre-wide whale sharks.
Whilst Thaa Atoll’s diving is suitable for beginners, many of the best dive sites have strong currents that requires experience. Advanced divers can explore deep, discovering steep walls that are decorated with coral & an abundance of fish. For the surfers there are some excellent breaks nearby, a full time Tropicsurf guide is based exclusively at COMO Maalifushi from April to October. Whether a beginner or season surfer, you can start from scratch or simply brush-up on your techniques.
Restaurant options are limited but the variety and the flexibility offered by the chefs won’t disappoint you. In the evening there are just two restaurants Madi (which is open all day) and Tai the Japanese restaurant. And of course, there is the private dining option for total privacy.
Play, the kids club for (4-12 years old) is one of the best in the Maldives and include activities with local traditions, outdoor activities. Pizza making and teens will love video games and sports.
The Travel Gallery take - we consider this a prefect “all round island” - solo travellers, friends, couples and families alike will love the huge variety of activities, whilst the natural beauty and remote location makes for a desert island adventure.
