The Classic Galle Face Hotel in Colombo was established in 1864 and won prestigious award as one of Asia's finest hotels. It is the oldest hotel east of the Suez. A masterpiece of Victorian architecture retains the dignified atmosphere that gave it such fame in the colonial age. The hotel has a superb location overlooking the Galle Face Green and the Indian Ocean. The Regency wing (also known as the Galle Face Regency) was renovated a number of years ago and between 2014-16 the hotel’s classic wing underwent extensive refurbishment to reinstate the hotel to its former glory.
A wide selection of restaurants and bars is headed by the Verandah Restaurant (western and Oriental cuisine), the Seaspray fish restaurant and the 1864 Room, a sedate fine-dining restaurant. The tranquillity of a pre-dinner drink on the verandah, as the sun retreats, has charmed many for more than a century, whilst the The Barista Deli and Inn on the Green British pub, accessed from Galle Road, attract a younger crowd. There is a wine lounge with underground wine cellar (designed for connoisseur's of fine wines, cheeses and cigars), snooker room,
small museum and art gallery. Sports facilities are limited. For clients happy to stay in a larger hotel, The Galle Face hotel today provides a perfect place to stay for a short visit to Colombo.
