Tamarind Hill is one of Galle‟s boutique hotels which is a beautiful manor house situated in three acres of verdant surroundings with a historic setting close to Galle. The hotel is also located close to beautiful beaches and exciting attractions of the area, and this makes it an inspired choice. Built in the 1800s and occupied over the years by a British Admiral and High Court Judge of the colonial times it combines the architecture and essence of a bygone era with a clever blend of modern amenities.
Designed by renowned interior designing style guru who discovered this manor house a few years ago, it has been beautifully refurbished and sensitively extended to encircle a sun-dappled courtyard which is the home to 10 beautiful rooms and two exquisite suites. Tamarind Hill is characterised by sloping tiled roofs, high ceilings, elongated verandahs and smoothly polished cement corridors that are furnished with beautiful antiques, clever reproductions, and cushioned sofas. Bright white walls are illustrated by interesting artwork, drawings and maps. A Tamarind tree – from where the hotel takes its name – is the centrepiece to the large grassy courtyard at the heart of the property and the tropical gardens that shelve down towards the river are enhanced by lush foliage, colourful plants and a magnificent infinity-edged swimming pool. A bar with comfortable front lounge area as well as a restaurant and dining area is located on the ground floor of the main house. Both Sri Lankan & Western fare is available should you wish to dine in the hotel.
